“Because sending a letter is the next best thing to showing up personally at someone’s door. Ink from your pen touches the stationary, your fingers touch the paper, your saliva seals the envelope, your scent graces the paper. Something tangible from your world travels through machines and hands, and deposits itself in another’s mailbox; their world. Your letter is then carried inside as an invited guest. The paper that was sitting on your desk, now sits on another’s. The recipient handles the paper that you handled. Letters create a connection that modern and impersonal forms of communication will never replace.”

mood: coming home to your apartment in Paris that you bought yourself with white walls, gold detailing, tall windows, flowing curtains, and a chandelier hanging from the ceiling; your cat laying on the pink silk sheets you bought with your work bonus; and a bathroom with a clawfoot tub, fluffy mauve towels, and floral-scented skincare atop your marble sink counter

open-----minded

but also wanting to come home to your dodgy apartment in Amsterdam that you rent each week, hardly able to afford because you don’t work in the small cafe around the block as much as you read and roam the streets. the hard, cold floors that creak, the bathroom tap that drips on and off, the small, pale yellow kitchen with paint peeling almost everywhere. but your contentment and happiness. that’s all that matters. the character, the depth to the dodgy apartment. the character, the depth to the life that is being lived.
